'Mark Stöhr' wrote a nice review about 'The Fog' and 'My Friend Is A Cloud' on the website... 2010lab / Europe In Shorts , the 1st European Short Film Internet Exhibition, which is presented by RUHR.2010 European Capital of Culture in cooperation with the film magazine Schnit.

"The animation work of this only 24-year-old Romanian often stresses the tension between nature and technology, man and machine. Giorgio de Chirico, the Greek mentor of Surrealism, once paraphrased his art as “the absence of man within man”. This sentence could also apply to Octavian's body of work. He constructs an alienated world, in which objects develop a live of their own and threaten to defy their masters' control. He is adopting an explicitly surrealist imagery that doesn't care about logic or proportions, being rooted more within the realms of dreams and the unconscious. His fantasy seems boundless, swinging itself through the thickest forest of association. If drugged ants could dream, it would look like a film by Anton Octavian....."

I'm happy to announce that the animated music video 'Septembers' for 'The Mantra ATSMM' will be screened at a festival more older than me with few months. You can see 'Septembers' in Namur / Belgium at the anniversary 25th edition of Namur International French-language Film Festival (FIFF).

"The FIFF, the only festival of French-language films to be recognised by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations, attracts 30,000 spectators. In order to reach an eclectic audience, the Festival alternates mainstream productions and creative films, more intimist.This year, with a desire for openness, one of the guidelines of the FIFF will be francophilia. In fact, the francophone language and culture have a weight and history which extend beyond its borders. This is why we will place the emphasis on this francophilia in the various activities put in place. Also, as the FIFF will take place during the Belgian Presidency of the European Union, European francophiles will be invited, among others, to celebrate our 25 years!"

A week in Naples (Napoli)

Last night I returned from Naples in a city completely changed, in Bucharest, "a white city"... a snowy town... with the smells of holiday! Yes! Holidays! I can't say that I will have part of this...because I will have a lot of work to do in the next weeks! Yes! In the coming weeks I will work on a new project "Septembers", a music video for The Mantra ATSMM. It will be an animation in which I will use 2 different techniques: 2D animation and rotoscope.

About Naples I can say many things... but I will say only that.... is one of the most beautiful cities that I've visited so far; a city where every place makes you to be more creative, more happy and more close to details. About The Mantra ATSMM I will say only that: 'they are a unique band, they and their music!' :)

One of my best friends and one of the most promising directors that I know is Andrei Staruiala. I not say this because Andrei is my friend ! I say this because I never met anyone with his patience and his power to learn.

Andrei recently completed the music video for "Gandul Poate Ucide" - Skizzo Skillz and Grasu XXL. The video is a combination of live action and motion graphics, and in my opinion, will be very successful, at least in Romania and even in other countries.

This is the first minute timelapse animation, which I did last year in may 2008 ... The project had to have 5 minute but unfortunately the lack of time I choose to photograph only one minute of animation (just the beginning). Everything is how I made three sculptures on the theme: Reunion! The three sculptures are now at the Faculty of Arts and Design in Timisoara.

To make 1 minute of animation I photographed during the 2 days, 6 hours on day, with a total of 1557 pictures using a digital camera Canon S5 IS ... the animation is HDV 720p, 25fps.

"Falling Down" official selection at Filmul de Piatra (Stone-Film Festival)

e n g : Starting with January 2009, Piatra Neamt will be the host of a short film festival called "Filmul de Piatra" (derived from the name of the city "Piatra" which means stone (rock) and translated as "Stone-film Festival"). The 1st edition will take place in the building of Teatrul Tineretului and other locations between 7th and 11th of January, 2009. The festival will have a national short film competition (all genres) and will award each category. The agenda will also include selections of international shorts, awarded in major festivals throughout the world. Other special programmes include live concerts, skiing and workshops.
